Privacy Policy

1. Overview

FAQ Helper ("we", "us", "our") provides an embeddable FAQ widget for websites. This privacy policy explains what data we collect and how we use it.

2. Data Collected by the Widget

When a visitor interacts with an FAQ Helper widget on a website, we collect:

• Page URL — the URL of the page where the widget is displayed
• Anonymous Session ID — a random UUID stored in localStorage (not a cookie), used to group interactions within a session
• FAQ Interactions — which FAQ items are expanded/clicked
• Search Queries — text entered in the widget search field
• Visitor Hash — a privacy-preserving hash (SHA-256 of IP + User-Agent + daily rotating salt), truncated to 16 characters, used solely for deduplication. This hash changes daily and cannot be reversed to identify a person.

What we do NOT store:

• Raw IP addresses
• Cookies (the widget uses only localStorage)
• Personal names, email addresses, or other directly identifying information

3. Data Collected for Admin Users

When you create an FAQ Helper account, we collect your name, email address, and password hash. We use session cookies for authentication.

4. Legal Basis (GDPR Art. 6)

Widget analytics: Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) — enabling website owners to understand how their FAQ content is used. The data collected is pseudonymized and minimal.

Admin accounts: Contract performance (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) — necessary to provide the service.

5. Analytics Opt-Out

Website owners can disable analytics by initializing the widget with analyticsEnabled: false. When disabled, no session IDs, page views, or click events are tracked.

End users can delete their analytics data by calling FAQHelper.deleteMyData() in the browser console, which removes all stored session data and associated analytics records.

6. Data Retention

Widget analytics data is retained for the duration of the customer's subscription. The daily-rotating visitor hash ensures that cross-day tracking is not possible.

You have the right to:

• Access the data we hold about you
• Request correction or deletion of your data
• Object to processing based on legitimate interest
• Data portability
• Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority
